Five Short Minutes Of Lovin - - -

 I don't care if I never fish another "A" spot, I'm not getting in line the night before the tickets go on sale to be sure I get to fish "my spot". That said, I did get to Deposit at 11:45, (early for me), and found the river sparsely populated with fishermen. An "A" spot I was unable to fish last week was open and I didn't dilly dally getting there. There were bugs from the get go, but the fish in the Sulfur Zone know what's coming and are in no rush to get started. Was there about 15 minutes before the first rise but things went from cold to hot almost before I could make a cast. I was careful, cast well, didn't make a lot of mistakes and caught 5 fish, including a 10 inch yearling bow and a 12 inch hatchery brown. Way too soon, the fish just stopped eating. There were still lots of bugs on the water but no fish up. Not only did the fish quit, but so did the anglers. Had the river to myself and decided to fish back to the car. Screwed up a couple, was refused by two more, but hooked and landed a 20 and a 19 inch brown. The twenty inch snaggle toothed old male was not happy with me and ripped a hole in my thumb during the hook removal process. Got to the car at 3:10, drove back to Lordville and took I nap. 

Awoke to the sound of thunder, (thunder doesn't make as much noise as it use to), (when you get older, you'll understand), Looked at the weather radar on my lap top, (which was on my lap), and saw that Lordville was in the middle of an orange area of heavy rain. Perhaps it was all a dream, but it didn't rain a drop in Lordville.

At 6:45 I headed out to fish.  Decided to try a place on the BR that I haven't fished all year, in half an hour I never saw a bug hatch or fish a rise, and bailed. Chose a place on the lower WB, and despite the fact that I had to tie myself to some knotweed to keep  from leaving, (not a GD thing happened until at least 8:30), it turned out to be a good decision. Bugs hatched, spinners fell, fish went crazy, and I hooked half a dozen fish landing five of them. Walking out I turned on my light, there were what  appeared to be sulfur spinners on the water along with some largish light yellow flies, (my Cahills were not well received, olives did the job).

If you are a day tripper, get here by 11:30, find a spot int the Sulfur Zone and wait for it to happen. It it's a long drive, go home when the feeding subsides. If you live here, or have a room in a motel, STAY. If you aren't blessed with patience or belief in what I say, don't head out in the evening until 8:15. Go down river and be ready, it will happen just before dark.
