With the Cannonsville Reservoir spilling hot water, (the Stilesville gage shows the water temperature to already be approaching 70 degrees), and with the air temperature predicted to be in the mid- nineties for the next two days, the West Branch fishery will be threatened.
The FFMP plan states that if at any time after June 15th the reservoir is overflowing, NYC is required to maximise the release, (1,500 cfs), until the spill ceases and a specified void is created in the reservoir. They failed to do this last week, running only 800 cfs and have not as yet increased the flow following the latest spill.
Will the WB browns and bows survive the big warm up?
Same old story. It’s the role of the river master to comply with the agreed to FFMP.
This is where the relationship between FUDR and the powers that be needs to kick in. And I assume readers of this blog are FUDR supporters.
Although I read to learn what the fish are eating, thanks 119 for keeping us informed. I think I understand the issue (warm surface water flooding the system, affecting fish directly plus washing away insects), I have done a search online and cannot find the FFMP plan. Do you happen to know where it is online, and the relevant sections. (Also if my understanding of the issue is correct, and that it’s a lot more than just a temporary summer flood).
Gotta wonder what is going on in people’s heads. Why have any rules or regulations if they are never followed. So sad!!
