I'm Done With Hot August Nights.

It's been an interesting couple of days. Two serious storms skirted downtown Lordville, (pavement under the trees was dry), one went to the north and one to the south. River out back was muddy all day today from the Beaverkill which shot up from 200 cfs to 800 cfs. It's now back to 475 cfs, clearing and fishable. Did the rise in water move fish? You'll have to find out for yourself, 'cause I'm heading home, return to be delayed by a doctors appointment to take care of a trigger fingers problem, (two of them are locking up).

The bugs - Hopefully I'm just trying to rush the season, fall bugs need cold water temps and we just don't have them. Ants? You have to be lucky. Last year I got in on what was a massive ant flight and had a great day. I haven't seen an ant on the water yet this year. Just so you know, many of the ant flights are local, if you find ants on the water stay and fish them. Several times in the past I've left ants on the water to go to a "better place" and there were no ants there. If someone knows for sure how to tell if ants will fly, please tell us. Some years I never see a flight, other years I get to fish four or five of them.

The fishing - I'm old, and I haven't gotten up to fish trico's but once, and it was all yearling fish when I did. Try the lower WB, the BR and the UEB and let us know how you do. I've only fished four days this week what with the Thursday Tornado and severe thunderstorms warning. My fishing has been from six, (or later), 'til dark, (tonight 8:29). How have I done? Numbers wise, poor. My hourly catch rate, however, has been good. Tonight, with the bugs and fish not getting going until 7:30, I hooked 8 fish, landing 5, (including two yearling non counters), while losing three good fish. Ten of the eleven fish I've managed to catch this week were rainbows all of which were between 15 and almost 20 inches.
