It's 7:30 Tuesday night, and I'm sitting at the kitchen table at the Lordville Estate, Perfect Manhattan in hand, prepared to do a "Wind Knots & Tailing Loops" page except that no one has asked any real questions.
Dennis, who asks more than twice as many questions as anybody else, did so again, but really Dennis, what do I use to clean my fly line? I am the worst gear guy on the river. Clean my line no more than two or three times a season and then only if so much water is clinging to the line that it keeps splashing on my glasses (which I clean several times a day). Your second question about what's up with the BK is clearly whining but because it's your first offense of the year, I'll accept a plea to the lesser charge of mewling. For the record, I have fished the BK twice and found a good number of both rainbows and browns up and feeding. The third question is legit. I made a good killing shot (I'm a terrible shot with a bow) on a six point, 18 month old buck, that weighed about 60 pounds less than the one you got.
Ed Smith, (who was asking a question just to be polite), wanted to know if the appearance of the apple caddis meant the Hendricksons were almost over. I've always thought the apple caddis appeared when the Hendricksons were about half way through their hatching cycle. I'm no longer sure. Water temperature (just so everyone knows I can spell it), and sunlight may be two separate hatching triggers. Hendricksons want 50 degrees, apple caddis want sunshine. Last week after seeing big hatches of apple caddis on sunny days, I fished to a Hendrickson only, hatch on a cloudy day.
Jim N.- I expected better of you. I fish with 5x tippet only if I can't follow a fish downstream. The rest of the time I use 6x. As an aside, I did enjoy your rod quiver comment even if I didn't understand all of it.
Jim Dygert - I have fished the same Winston IM6 8' 4 weight rod since back in the 90's. It's the part of of my right arm that doesn't have arthritis. I use a DT line, always have and will, as long as they still make'em and I'm still fishing. Tried a Tom Morgan, which is slower even than the IM6, and felt it was a little too soft for my needs on the Delaware. (Wish the guys at the Troutfitter had told me about it, would have given it another try).
Brian asked the best question when he wanted to know what I thought would be the effect of the proposed drawdown releases this summer during the aqueduct repair. Unfortunately I've finished my PM, and met my word quota for the day. Not to worry, given current water levels, there will be plenty of time tomorrow to go into depth on the subject.

Thanks for your reply..I to fish a DT with my Tom Morgan. I actually had Rick order it for me last year..took awhile to get it as labor shortage slowed everything down. It’s a nice size for the Beaverkill or Willow..I use my WT on the Delaware or on rivers of that size.
For you guys and my self with Arthritis try a medium action rod with the new scientific anglers infinity Amplitude line. You’ll love it less effort with great results. Tight lines

First off, thanks for all of the posts so far this year. They are insightful and sometimes hilarious. I have a question for you:
Do you ever just fish a 5 or 6x dry fly leader with no tippet attached and if not, do you add several feet of tippet in order to minimize the amount of little knots in order to create less drag?
