It was an interesting day to say the least. Yesterday I fished a Hendrickson hatch in the afternoon and a modest caddis spinner fall in the evening, went 10 for 10 which gave me my first "win" on the Delaware this season.
Today I fished in two places in the WB, two places in the BK, and finished up in what to me is a special place on the EB. There wasn't a significant hatch of anything that I could see anywhere I went all day. Caddis were present in modest numbers on the WB and on the EB. A few Hendricksons floated by on one stop in the WB, saw no bugs on the BK.
Here's how it all unfolded - Left the Lordville Estate about 2:00, drove up the PA side, to Hale Eddy. all of the access sites were crammed with trailers, (passed at least a dozen more speeding down 191). Saw rising fish off a bridge on the WB and waded in. There were fish willing to eat a fly with a hook in it and boats willing to give you room to cast. Hooked seven fish and landed five.
Second stop was the interesting one. Boats rowed by at about 75 yard intervals, all hugging the far bank. Saw a few Hendricksons and a couple of rising fish. Hooked them both, landing one. Heard laughter and a lot of banging of paddles against canoes downstream where a group of 50 to 100 people, all wearing bright orange life preservers, were launching an array of canoes, kayaks, and pontoon boats. They were in the pool below me paddling around before heading downstream where the river was full of fishermen.
Arrived at the BK to find no fishermen, fished two pools and now know why. Saw no bugs of any kind, one fish rose and ate my fly, another ate a blind cast, three others each gave my spinner an indignant refusals. I left.
The last stop was on the EB, rarely do I see other wade fishermen there, making it ideal for holiday weekends, the drift boats come by every day but not in the numbers seen on the WB and BR. Fished from about 6:30 until 8:30, there were a few caddis egg layers and an occasional mayfly floated by. Didn't see more than half a dozen rises until just before dark, but the fish wanted to eat. Couldn't see my fly on the silver water side where three fish hit blind casts, (lost them all), saw three risers on the dark side and all three ate my fly, lost one and landed two, (one a 21 incher that is, so far, fish of the year). Ended the day at the tail out of a big pool where there were half a dozen fish rising. Got four to eat. Lost the first three and landed the last which gave me 10 for the second straight day. I clearly need to work on my fish landing skills.
Heading home in the morning, hope everyone enjoys the long weekend.

A119 how does this cold weather and old water affect the current bug hatches?? Will it prolong the current hatch. Do you think there will be any affect on the coming hatches(iso-green drakes)
Thanks
I went 49 from 50….I guess that now I AM THE LEGEND. I didn’t even need the banana boat….I use other sun screen.
Wow 48 to the hand…I can’t wait to tell my pals about that..time to head down..Thanks !!!
I went 48 out of 50. All from a banana boat. What a day!
Is there need for concern on the BK and lack of bugs? Was the extreme low water the past 2 years part of the problem?
Great to see you had a wonderful day and landed a 21 incher..what with gasoline prices so high I am sure you are keeping our economy humming with the amount of driving you are doing..but..we gotta do what we gotta do..
P.S. And thanks to the nod to one of my favorite groups. Ed
Angler119’- What a great day. You managed to work around the crowd and still find good fishing . And you landed a 21”er . A magnificent fish and icing on the cake. Congratulations. Enjoy the weekend. All My Best . Ed
