So How'd Everybody Do This Weekend?

Posted on April 27 2026

It's 6:10 on Monday morning, I'm at the breakfast table catching up on the fishing reports, and no one has posted a comment on the weekend fishing. In fact only the assoc. editors, Rich T. and Smitty have filed reports so far this year.

I will not be found standing shoulder to shoulder with a group of wade fishermen, or in a place where a seemingly unending string of boats floats by 100 yards apart. I do the best I can to keep you appraised of what's happening on over 90 miles of trout water, BUT, I need your help. The past few days the launch sites had trailers parked out on the road, wade fishermen were everywhere and no one took the time to make a comment about the fishing.

If you are happy just reading about what a nice day it is to be on the river or being wished "Lotsa luck.", fine, perhaps I'm wasting my time. If this site is to continue to be the best and most accurate source for what's happening on the river system - it needs input from everyone out there on the water. It doesn't seem like a big ask.

Will be heading out shortly and expect to be on the river after first cutting the  grass at the Lordville Estate..

Upper East Sun some Hendos no risers, still percolating. Floated Stock to Buck yesterday, very heavy Caddis, fish refused to rise. The few that did laughed, hard.

Neversink this past Sunday. Lots of black caddis decent hatch of hendricksons. Hooked a 20 inch brown that broker me off, caught 2-4 other 14-16 inchers on black caddis. Good day, fish are looking up.

Last weekend floated shehawkin to Buckingham with the dog. Miserable. So windy it was torture. So many damn boats already. Had no expectations so planned on enjoying the trip down river with the pup but the wind was brutal. Had a nice apple caddis hatch but wind was just too much.

Planning on hitting neversink this coming Saturday then float Sunday or Monday Lower west main.

Fished the lower East today (hike in spot to a long riffle) from 10 till 4. Light Caddis hatch on and off most of the day. Rainbows would occasionally jump on them for brief periods, you had to get on them while they were up. Had 4 different emerger patterns work, none consistently, mostly small fish but fun on a 4 wt. 1 Hendrickson spotted no boats or other anglers seen.

    Thanks for the reports.

As soon as I start getting my butt up there, you will hear from me lol

2 hour hatch window seems generous. What has been happening (Main, West) is about an hour of caddis, coming down in waves. They have been on the water for about a half hour , max. Hendricksons mixed in, but maybe 10% of the overall makeup. Some Quil Gordon’s mixed in. It has been sparse, but some of my campground brethren managed to hit a flurry of activity, a case of being in the right spot at the right time.

I’m quite a ways away and don’t get down there that often, but I love hearing about the reports. Please don’t be discouraged. Keep your reports coming!!

I made it out both Saturday and Sunday this past weekend. I was in the lower BK on Saturday and landed an 18 inch brown on a Hendrickson. The rain, wind, and cold temperatures were unpleasant and I decided to call it around 3:45. Sunday was disappointing. I looked at the lower BK and the Willowemoc around 2:15. Caddis and mayflies were on the water, but no response from the fish on top. I then went to the upper BK and found a similar situation, though flows were a bit better. I tried nymphing a few pools with no success, then decided to go out for some food instead. It was a day that I wish I had a boat.

I read your report every day and it makes me feel connected to the rivers that I enjoy so much. I’m also a fan of the Troutfitter and stop to see Dave often on my trips from my place in Syracuse to my place in Cooks Falls. So keep up the great work. As far as the fishing this weekend, I was at a favorite spot on the Upper East Branch from 12:30 until 4 PM. from 2-4 there was a significant Hendrickson hatch, but the fish were nowhere to be seen. I spent about 45 minutes casting to the only riser I saw, without any luck, who was impossibly hidden under an overhanging rhododendron branch. There were about six other anglers spread out over the large pool, and it didn’t look like they were having any luck. But it was a beautiful afternoon. I got a lot of tricky casting practice, and the Hendricksons are out, so there will be more days to enjoy.

I’d like to give a report because it would mean I went fishing….which I have not! Still a little early for us out of staters….a 2 hr dry fly window in afternoons not worth the drive. Hoping to get up next week and will report back.

I made it to the river yesterday and I didn’t get skunked. The BK was too high for me to fish so I went back to deposit to see what was happening. I started fishing at 2 and left at 4:30 I saw a total of 5 fish rise and had a chance to cast at one close fish. I was lucky enough to land him. 15 in. Brown trout. There were a few caddis and a few Hendricksons. I landed the fish on a Hendrickson. Hope to go Wednesday and I will report back on the fishing. I hear the guides are doing well on dries on the main stem

No fishing this weekend as WB to high at 900cfs to safely wade. More rain on the way this week won’t help. Looks like a repeat of last year!
