Drove down to the Lordville Estate early this morning, stopping briefly at the Troutfitter in Deposit to pick up a new pair of waders. Had an appointment at 10:00 with Hancock Telephone, (now Archtopfiber) to install internet and activate the phone. By noon I was all hooked up.
Opened the rod tube on the IM6 that I had sent to Winston for repairs and found that they had done only one of the two jobs. New tip guide was perfect, but the reel seat fell off the rod when I took it out of the tube. Called the repair department and they told me what to use to make the repair, (an "I'm sorry", was surprisingly, never uttered). Will tackle the repair job tomorrow.
Spent the afternoon pruning and spraying the fruit trees. The doe with twin fawns came by to browse the pruning's from the plum tree before I was out of the yard.
As you are no doubt aware, the temperature has been averaging ten to fifteen degrees below normal most days, with a mix of rain/snow and wind. There has been little or no sun. A winter storm watch has been posted for tonight with two to six inches expected. Without sun the water just won't warm up enough for bugs to hatch.
The fishing - There have been a surprising number of fishermen who just can't wait. What action there is, is almost all subsurface on streamers and nymphs. The conditions have been brutal no matter what the lodges say, but some fish have been caught. My advice to dry fly fishermen would be to keep your pants on and your waders off. Wait 'til the weatherman serves up a prediction of three or four sunny days in a row and then take a personal day.
A119 thanks for the report. It’s frustrating I can’t golf or fish till the weather changes. I have to stop at the troutfitters to have Dave fix me up with a new fly line.

Thanks for the (snow) boots on the ground report. I’ll wait a bit longer before driving up. I’ll head to SE PA where the water is warmer and look for some rises.

I just checked the temp gauges on the Beaverkill and Willow and they are both around 40 degrees..still too cold for any consistent top water fishing..sooo I’ll finish topping off fly boxes and going over anything else that needs attention..headed to the First Responders Hockey Game this afternoon (my son in law is a detective and hockey player) so it should be fun…we definitely need 3-4 days of sun!
P.S. Sorry to hear that Winston flubbed your rod repair and didn’t even apologize. Thanks to your advice I ‘ve had great customer service from them. Hope their not losing sight of their customers
Angler119’- It’s been brutally cold here in NJ also.Real temps at freezing or below. We ‘ve been at our granddaughters lacrosse games with winter coats, scarves and gloves. Looks like we’re going skiing. I may be stupid( I know I am) and give fishing a try on Monday. Thanks for the John Denver reference. Ed
