The Times They Are A Changin' - - -

 Never mind what the calendar says, it's fall. Started the first fire in the stove this morning since sometime back in May. It was 47 out on the porch and a chilly 68 inside. Made three trips to the big apple tree to pick up drops, (the deer just can't keep up), filling a five gallon bucket in the process. Between  the neighborhood peach and apple trees, the deer are very well fed. The fawns are still struggling with even the small apples, but they pick up the pieces mom drops chewing the bigger apples. Have not yet seen a buck out of the velvet. Watched the US Women's team win handily today. Caitlin Clark has been forced to play a plodding structured game preferred by the coach. Will be interesting to see what happens when they play the good teams later in the tournament.

When the game was over I left the camp and went fishing. Stopped at a place on the EB both on the way out and back. Saw no bugs either time, but did see one rise on the way back. Fished to rising trout for a couple of hours on the UEB, caught fish from 8 to 11 inches, again it was fun but not exciting. There were small olives but not bugs enough to get the big fish up. Things slowed down about 6:45 and I reeled it in and headed back towards Hancock, stopping first at the aforementioned place on the EB. Next stop was at junction pool where there was a boat with a sport casting at fish in the foam line and a wade fisherman downstream near the head of the riff just casting. With two thirds, (I didn't do the math), of the water coming from the EB, the foam line and the rising fish were way, way over on the far side, but they were going. Walked out to one of the picnic benches, shoes in hand, got out of my waders and called it a day.

Got back in time to pick up a two gallon pail of drops, then watch the little spike horn and the doe with the single fawn clean up the drops from the tree just off the porch.

The GD sun keeps the olives from hatching until almost dark, and the trout from feeding, but the trout are moving back to their home pools, (both people and fish do that after Labor Day), and as the water drops you will have a chance of hooking a trout no matter where you fish.
