Time To Add More Fly Boxes To Your Vest.

Having been in dry-dock for the first two weeks of what is supposed to be the apex of the "big bug" season, I was understandably anxious to get back down to the Lordville Estate. There was no illusion, however, that I would be wading into pods of feeding fish. My primary concern was the lawn which had been ignored for twelve days.

Dropped Jean off at the airport at 5:30, (she's left me again), packed the car, and was on the road about 9:00. It didn't rain on the way down, but the passing lane was still wet until I got to Hancock, then both lanes were wet. The lawn was also sopping wet, put stuff away, then sat down and continued reading a book I started a couple days ago. Around 11:30 it started getting brighter, and lo, around noon the sun came out. The grass was still wet in shaded areas when I started mowing, but I finished up about 2:15 without clogging up the chute that spews out the grass.

Put the mower in the garage, and headed out with more curiosity than hope. Last night's rain set back the descent of the BK, Willow, and Neversink, (the best wading possibilities) by about a day. Drove around the eastern streams, seeing nary an angler on the BK, but cars lined up in the parking lots along the Willow.

The bugs - They are on the WB, caddis and Hendricksons up top, March Browns down low, spinners everywhere. Saw a few March Browns on the Willow, less than a handful on the Bk and none in my stop at the Buckingham launch on my return to the fishing camp.

The fish - The WB is the place to be, BUT you need to be in a boat. The drifters are seeing both bugs and rising fish. The "mudflats" are like a parking lot at a rock concert, with everyone there fishing the evening spinner fall.

The fishing - It all depends on the weather. The streams are dropping but both the WB, EB, UEB, and BR have a ways to go. Spend the big bucks, and try to get on a boat or call your buddy that has one, and bum a ride. Wading is still a few days out where the bugs are hatching and the action is.

Hats off to Ed Smith, who identified Roy Orbison's "Only The Lonely", (an early sixties C&W hit) by a mere two words - Impressive.

Special thanks to our relentless Grammarian who spotted three typos in yesterday's brief offering. My spell check took the night off and with no red lines, I patted myself on the back and hit publish.

Floated barking dog to balls yesterday saw maybe 3-4 fish rise the entire float. Not cool

Angler119’- Thanks for the update. Hope to get up there next Wednesday and give it a try. I appreciate the kudos on the song, sometimes I just get lucky. Ed
