What You Need To Know To Go.

Posted on April 27 2025

Left for home this morning with a steady rain falling, and all graphs heading straight up. As I write this Oquaga is gushing 600cfs of mud, (up from 40cfs yesterday). The WB above Oquaga was muddy half way across at the town bridge at noon today, but the river should be fine down to Oquaga tomorrow. The WB below Oquaga is certainly at floating levels and can be waded by those who know the river. Clarity will be an issue. The Beaverkill is high and muddy and will not be wade able tomorrow. The UEB can be waded at current levels but is probably too muddy. The BE will be too high for wading but will be floatable with water clarity again the big issue. The BR will be unwadeable and probably too muddy to fish.

Hopefully the One Buggers will shuffle the schedule and try to get the anglers on fishable water for Sunday. Streamers will no doubt be the fly of choice.

If you are thinking of a day trip - reschedule. If you are here, join the rest of the wade fishermen above Oquaga. We badly needed the rain it's just a shame it arrived on One Bug weekend. Without additional rain, we should be back to good fishable water conditions by Monday or Tuesday.

Angler119- Didn’t mean to jump your response to Jim N. Thought I could share some of my experiences. Also some of the wacky things I mentioned were not the norm but aborations over the past 50 years Ed

Jim N. – Yes , I’ve experienced morning spinner falls of Hendricksons and other mayflies during very hot weather. I’ hit a tremendous blue quill hatch on the BK on a 80+ degree day that didn’t start until after 6pm and went into darkness. For survival , the bugs need optimal air temps . Sometimes on a cold start with warming temps the Hendricksons won’t hatch until 5pm. Nature is full of mysteries. Who really knows what’s going to happen on any given day. Ed

    A119,
I read a post in a PA forum (the second thing I read every morning after your blog) where a guy claims he fished a Hendrickson hatch and spinner fall at 8:30 in the morning on the Delaware near Calicoon the other day. Have you ever seen Hendricksons that early in the day? I always thought it was a 1-4pm event. The Caddis were awake at that time last week when I was in the river that early.

    Thanks and safe travels.
