Anadromous Rods - 3 Epic Builds

Posted on February 09 2015

I started following Holland Ney of Anadromous Rods on Facebook and he recently finished up three unique Swift Fly Fishing Epic builds and I wanted to share his work here.

Holland wrote...  "This build features clear wraps and black ash burl dyed green for the handle.  On this handle I wanted to go a little nuts with the cork saw and the handle has over forty rings cut in six different thicknesses.  I used two different greens to match the rod and reel seat."

Holland wrote...  "This build features matching wraps, Buckeye burl that has been dyed orange and a semi ventilated grip.

I love the look of ventilated grips and this grip is not ventilated all the way through. The rod still has more flex into the handle than a solid grip but less that a fully ventilated handle.  The cork that has been turned down to create vents follows the shape of handle.

I used Mildrum stripping guides to match the grey reel seat hardware and winding check. The reel seat insert matches the rod while having just enough grey to tie into all the metal components."

Holland wrote...  "The Epic 686 has matching wraps, dyed orange Buckeye reel seat, and split ergo grip.  This handle idea came to me one day and I immediately started playing with the idea.  After several versions this was the winner.  I can not explain how comfortable this grip is and I designed it to fit the shape of my hand at rest.  The oversized ball section of handle fills up the palm and area between the thumb and fore finger.  The ring and small finger fall into exposed blank area, while the heel of hand is supported by the extreme swoop above reel seat.  The design makes holding and casting the rod effortless, while pushing the limits of design."

Holland does not have a website but follow along with the latest shop news on the Anadromous Rods Facebook page.
