Angling Community at Odds on Puget Steelhead

Posted on May 21 2014

Angling communities are expressing vastly different reactions to the recent settlement that stopped Washington’s plans to release about 900,000 steelhead smolts in Puget Sound-area rivers. Frank Urabeck, a sport fishing advocate from Bonney Lake, expressed frustration, “because the department didn’t consult with any of the sports groups that might be impacted,” continuing that “There has been a lot of trust lost over this.” And Kurt Beardslee, executive director of Wild Fish Conservancy praised the agreement as “a giant win for Puget Sound’s wild steelhead and their recovery.” Via The Olympian.
