Climate Changing Fish Size

Posted on October 08 2012

The work of researchers at the University of British Columbia is showing that the changing climate and warmer water temperatures are impacting fish size, migrations, and breeding. “Rising temperatures directly increase the metabolic rate of the fish’s body function,” said lead author of the study, Dr William Cheung, to the BBC News. “This leads to an increase in oxygen demand for normal body activities. So the fish will run out of oxygen for growth at a smaller body size.”
