DEEP BEND RODWORKS: Lowcountry Flats Glass

Posted on October 10 2016

It didn't take Marty Romeo of Deep Bend Rodworks very long after his move to Charleston to start masterminding a heavy line weight fiberglass fly rod for a series of limited edition "Lowcountry Flats Glass" builds which the blanks were rolled by taper guru Mike McFarland of McFarland Rod Company.

These 8'4" 8/'9 weight fly rods will be built to exact specifications in the coming weeks and I can't wait to flex a demo that should be arriving soon for review.

Marty wrote...  "These blanks are fairly fast to combat the wind we get down here, but will really flex with a 20" fish.  A nine weight fly line will heave a big gurgler with accuracy and can move big dumbbell eyed stuff like Rhedd Butlers with confidence.

For the "Lowcountry Flats Glass", I will use Lemke TITA titanium reel seats, Snake Brand universal ECOating guides to keep them from any corrosion, Snake Brand chrome low profile stripping guides in 16mm (stripper) and 12mm (tamer), unless 12/10 are requested.  Production rods to get 7" full wells 5-star flor grips turned in-house unless otherwise requested, along with 3/4" fighting butt.  The wraps on this series will have a different color scheme then the build in these photos with sunset orange main wraps and teal tipping as an overt nod to the redfish tail.
There will be ten fly rods offered in this limited edition series and the price will start at $675.00."

The Deep Bend Rodworks website is still in the works but follow along on Facebook and Instagram.  Marty can by contacted by email at martyromeo@gmail.com to put your name on one of these limited edition builds.
