“Spiking machine” Johnny Manzo, who was introduced to fly fishing at a youth academy sponsored by the Santa Barbara Flyfishers, compares volleyball and fly fishing as two sports where athleticism will take you only so far. And he offers this as one of his more important memories a few months before heading off to Harvard:
“’I left the camera in the car with my parents,’ he said. ‘They stayed out of the rain. I was all alone with the fish. It was a great fish, a beautiful fish. I released him. He gave something to me. I gave him something in return.‘” John Zant in Santa Barbara’s Independent.
