While no one should doubt the value of encouraging citizens to fish, Georgia residents will be feeling the pinch of their state’s $14 million fishing museum until at least 2026. That’s how long it will take the state to pay off the bonds issued to fund former Gov. Sonny Perdue’s “Go Fish” project — which happens to be in the politician’s home town.
“With a large state deficit looming, Go Fish has become a cautionary tale about the long-term ramifications of prerecession decisions. The state must make bond payments for the museum for the next 16 years.
