On his trip to Andros South this past May, Michael White brought along his trusty hyena – a good luck charm that always seems to bring him good fishing.  Have a look at the writeup Whitey sent us on his hyena, and then let us know what brings you good luck!

Whitey’s Hyena

Amulet/Talisman: Any object intended to bring good luck to its owner.

I’m not an angler given to very many superstitions. I’ve eaten bananas in a boat, stepped on plenty of cracks, walked under ladders, caught fish on the first cast…hell I’ve even broken a mirror before. None of it seemed to affect me or, worse yet, hinder my fishing.

But, since the early 90’s there is one thing I’m never without…Hyena (or Shenzi for those Lion King fans out there).

For those of you who have fished with me, you know she is never far from my side. Typically found in my boat bag, fanny pack, pocket or in my briefcase when traveling, she has brought me all the luck I’ve ever needed. I’ve even rubbed her on other people’s rods just to give them a bit of her juju, often with good results. Next time we’re on the water together, just know she’s always ready to help a brutha out.

What About You?
