Our lodges are located in four pretty stunning locations, which provides us and our guests with great opportunities for taking pictures.
If you like taking wide-angle pictures outdoors, and you don’t mind tinkering a bit, HDR photography is a pretty neat way to get some beautiful exposures and really unique look.
HDR stands for High Dynamic Range. It’s a technique in which multiple images are combined using software that takes the best-exposed parts of each image to create a single image with very even exposure throughout. HDR photography elimates some of the problems that you face when shooting in bright conditions outdoors – for example, getting a good exposure of the sky and white clouds, while still getting rich detail in the foreground.

The technique that we use is fairly straightforward –
- Set the camera on a tripod.
- Use bracketing and multiple frames on the timer to take one image as metered, one at +2 EV and one at -2EV.
- Use Photomatix to combine the images into a single HDR image.

HDR adds some steps to the process, but with a little bit of time the results can be worth it.
