As you can tell by the number of guests posts on our blog, we often ask our friends in and around the industry for ideas and content that we can post.
A recent conversation with Eric Neufeld, Alaska West alumnus and current Simms and Idylwilde rep for the Northwest, was a great reminder that you don’t need a particularly refined technique to catch silvers in our part of the state.
The rant started something like this – “You want to know how to catch silver salmon? I’ll tell you how to catch silver salmon…”
How to Catch Silver Salmon, by Eric Neufeld
Grab an 8 weight with a floating line. Tie on a pink fly with lead eyes. Huck it out there. Start stripping. When you feel a tug, pull back. Fight the fish. Release the fish. Repeat the process.
When that stops working, grab a pink/purple fly and repeat the process. This is usually good for another 3-5 fish.
When that stops working, grab a black fly and repeat the process.
When that stops working, move to a new spot.
Repeat until unable to hold rod.
