Hydro Flask Travel Coffee Mug Review
Good as new. Photo: Kyle Shea.

Are you part of the 83 percent of adults in the U.S. who like to start their day with a cup of coffee? Or, perhaps part of the 51 percent of Americans who drink tea on a daily basis? (Sorry, our diligent team of researchers could only find U.S. statistics).

If so, odds are you don’t take a day off from caffeine while fishing either. We love a cup of coffee on the water and therefore always travel with a travel mug (as well as recommend our guests bring one along).

However, all travel mugs are not created equal, and today we share with you the best one we’ve found thus far. It’s called the Coffee & Tea Flask by Hydro Flask and we think it’s a game changer.

Hydro Flask Coffee & Tea Flask

First off, this is not meant to be an overly technical review. Sure, we could pretend to understand food grade stainless steels or the finer points of vacuum insulation, but we know that’s not what your interested in.

Instead, we’re going to tell you about the three things we think a travel mug should do well and why the Hydro Flask measures up.

  1. Keeps hot things hot and cold things cold. Lukewarm coffee is a bummer. The double walled Hydro Flask keeps hot liquids hot well through the day, or at least as long as our coffee ever lasts.
  2. Doesn’t Spill. There are several lid option available for the Hydro Flask travel mug, but we really like the ‘Flip Lid.’ It can be opened and closed with one hand, and incorporates a rubber stopper plug that seems to eliminate any chance of spills. It makes for easy operation while running a jet boat, which we really appreciate. While Hydro Flask is reluctant to list the Flip Lid as ‘leak proof,’ lets just say we’ve seen it spend a considerable amount of time upside down without much (if any) coffee lost.
  3. Durability. We like things that hold up to daily abuse and we have a feeling you do too. The Hydro Flask shown in the image above has endured somewhere around 200 days of being tossed on gravel bars and rolling around the bottom of jet boats and flats skiffs, all without any problems, and we think that’s a pretty fair test of durability. Not to mention it has a lifetime warranty.

The Hydro Flask Coffee & Tea Flask (18 0z.) retails for $25.99 and just might be the last travel mug you’ll ever need. For more details, visit Hydro Flask’s website, here.
