Joe Healy Leaves "Fly Rod & Reel" Magazine

Posted on January 05 2011

Associate publisher Joe Healy, who led Fly Rod & Reel‘s editorial and advertising departments, has left the magazine for a job in education. According to Downeast group publisher John Viehman, Healy got an offer in late 2010 to become marketing and communications director for the nearby St. Johnsbury Academy.
According to Viehman, Healy’s departure was unexpected but occurred on good terms. Viehman said: “Even though we’ll miss Joe, we have a good group of dedicated people ready to fill in. Linda Wood has been promoted to ad director, and Greg Thomas, who joined the magazine as managing editor in 2009, and Downeast VP Jim Butler will be taking over Joe’s editorial responsibilities short-term.”
Asked about what the future holds for Fly Rod & Reel, Viehman says he expects good trends to continue. “Thanks to our focus on providing high-quality content to readers, our ad sales and our subscriber numbers are growing, and we’ll continue our move into digital markets in 2011.”
