In today’s New York Times, Chris Santella writes about steelheading on Alaska’s Kodiak island, where the de Havilland DHC-2 Beaver is the only taxi service and the fishing — while expensive — often exceeds expectations.
“Only 1,657 Beavers were manufactured by de Havilland Canada; the last came off the assembly line in 1967. They are prized for their dependability and easy handling, and lodge owners and outfitters pay as much as $500,000 for a 40- or 50-year-old aircraft.”
