Lefty Kreh on Fly Lines: "They Were Supposed to Float"

Posted on May 18 2005

Left Kreh notes that one of the most important innovations in modern fly fishing was the development of true floating lines. “Kreh went on to describe the labor intensive process of creating a braided silk line and summed them up with the judgement. ‘They were supposed to float, but no floating lines ever floated very long,’ he said. He recounted Scientific Angler’s development of the modern, vinyl-coated line. ‘Then they could make a line that positively would float or sink and they could make them cheap,’ Kreh said. ‘That was the first major innovation.'” George Grant on Tri-Cities.com.
