We are away from home for Christmas and it just started snowing.  It likely won't last long but still a wonderful way to begin our morning with a cup of coffee, a fire and views from the porch looking into Rocky Mountain National Park.  Our Christmas Tree is just a sprig from a pine with a couple little candy canes, a piece of twine as garland and a single glass ornament.  The stockings laid beside it have kinda dwarfed it but it completes our mountain Christmas.

Twenty years ago my wife and I had just been married, moved to Colorado and we couldn't make it home to our families in Michigan or South Carolina for Christmas.  Not being home was tough but set us on a path of making our own traditions for the holidays.  It's good to be back here with our children, showing them the places and doing the things that we enjoyed while living here.

Today we'll do some hiking and snowshoeing in RMNP, make a pot of chili, tackle a 1,000 piece puzzle and enjoy the day.  This is Christmas and maybe less about traditions this year but certainly good to be in the mountains spending time together.

Merry Christmas and I hope that each of you are having a wonderful holiday with family and friends.

Thanks to Jerry Tanner of The Modern Fly for allowing me to use his Antique Holiday Popper art for this post.  If you like what you're seeing, check out his website, Facebook and Instagram.  He also recently released a book of his limited edition art prints that is a wonderful glimpse at his art.
