Simms Guide Windstopper Jacket
Our highly-paid model in the Guide Windstopper Jacket

We got a peek last week at some new gear that Simms is shipping this fall, courtesy of our friendly local Simms rep.  We really liked a few of the items, so we thought we’d tell you about them!  They’re all headed to your friendly local Simms dealer on or about August 1st.

Guide Windstopper Jacket

This is an update to the Guide Windstopper Jacket that we told you about a couple years ago.  It uses a combination of softshell fabrics throughout, making it more water repellent than the old version (which had straight Windstopper fleece in places).  The fit has been updated so it’s not so boxy, and it keeps the big, roomy hood.

We wear softshells more than hard shells these days, and we expect many cozy days on the water in this thing.  It’s not cheap at $299.95 – but it’s a really nice jacket.

Fall Run Jacket
Doesn't he look warm? Fall Run Jacket.

Fall Run Jacket

The Fall Run Jacket is a warm, lightweight layering piece.  Lightweight is an understatement – other than being warm, you can hardly tell you have it on.  Thank the PrimaLoft One insulation for that.

Pairing this thing with the Guide Windstopper Jacket will keep you really warm and dry in anything other than arctic or downpour conditions, we think.  It’s also understated enough that you’ll probably wear it around town.  It’ll cost you $149.95.

Bulkley Jacket

June at Alaska West, October on the Bulkley, frosty fall mornings on your favorite Western trout stream…this is the coat you want when you want to be as warm and dry as possible.  It’s a Gore-Tex hard shell jacket with PrimaLoft One insulation built right in.  The insulation is thicker in the body than in the arms, which helps you not feel like a marshmallow man when you’re casting – especially with a two-handed rod.

It’s super warm and surprisingly comfortable.  Stupid quote of the day from our gear session – “It’s not bulky, it’s Bulkley!”  $279.95.

ColdWeather Shirt

ColdWeather Shirt

Maybe you’ll wear it on the river, but we think more about hanging around the campfire.  It’s a good looking, soft polyester plaid shirt with a cozy surprise – it’s lined with fleece!  If you’re going to throw it on over another layer or two, you’re going to want to order one size up. $99.95 is the damage.
