In the video below, Tom Rosenbauer talks to us about the 2011 Superfine Touch fly rod series, which the company has completely redesigned using two mandrels and two different tapers and all-new materials. The goal was to make a rod that casts perfectly at 10-25 feet. (During testing on the White River in western Colorado this week, we found that consistent, accurate casts were possible with just the leader and about a foot of line out.)
Like the company’s new Access Rod Series, the Superfine Touch rods are impregnated with Orvis’s new epoxy-based resin system with plasticizers for a toughened resin system, but keeping the rod’s weight at a level not before possible at this price point. Superfine Touch rods will be available in either 3 or 4 pieces for most models, in 0 through 6 weight. MSRP is $495.
