Rio Gallegos Waders

Rio Gallegos Waders

In addition to redesigning their Guidewater and Watermaster waders for 2011 (see below), Patagonia has unveiled the brand new Rio Gallegos waders.  This versatile and durable wader features a new EZ Lock Slider suspension system that is exclusive to Patagonia.  Designers also paid special attention to the keeping anglers’ feet warm.  The patent-pending merino-wool-lined neoprene booties are 90 percent warmer than traditional neoprene booties, the company says.  The Rio Gallegos waders also have removable neoprene knee pads, a unique, fully submersible welded TPU pocket, and strategically placed exterior leg tape for added durability at critical wear points. The fabric on this wader is a 3-layer polyester microfiber shell with a proprietary waterproof/breathable barrier that is highly durable and puncture-resistant.

Prior to the 2010 IFTD show, we fished with Patagonia’s Bill Klyn and asked him to point out the several new features built into the company’s 2011 Rio Gallegos waders.

Available sometime in late winter or early spring for $449

Gunnison Gorge Wading Pants

Gunnison Gorge Wading Pants

Also new for 2011 is the Gunnison Gorge wading pant.  This versatile, lightweight wading pant is ideally suited for hot-weather conditions, or anytime deep wading is not required. With a work/wear-inspired look, these pants are made from a 3-layer 7-ounce polyester microfiber twill shell with a proprietary waterproof/breathable barrier, and exterior reinforcement tape on the interior of the leg for added durability and scuff protection. The pant has a fully elastic back, anatomically curved knees, strategic seam placement and a fully submersible welded TPU pocket.

Available sometime in late winter or early spring for $279

Guidewater and Watermaster Wader Updates

Updates to the Guidewater and Watermaster Waders include the new EZ Lock Slider suspension system.  This new system provides the user with the ability to easily convert the wader from chest to waist height, as well as empty your bladder without having to remove a jacket or vest. Additionally, the wool-lined bootie has been completely re-engineered to eliminate the seam over the instep, resulting in a far more comfortable, sock-like fit.

Available sometime in late winter or early spring, you will be able to find their new wader line at Patagonia’s Web site, or a dealer near you.
