Permit Should Be Treated Like "Rock Stars"

Posted on November 09 2010

When the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission decided last year to extend its authority over permit harvesting into federal waters, it started with ideas that protected the rights of commercial harvesters and spear fishers. But the tide may be turning. According to an article by Timothy O’Hara in the Key West Citizen, FWC chairman Rodney Barreto seems willing to extend the discussion for as long as it takes to ensure the fish are protected.
“‘These are special fish and we need to treat them like rock stars,’ Barreto said. ‘I want to look at everything as a whole.'”
Send your emails in support of further protections for permit — particularly in favor of a bag limit of one or two permit per boat per day — to Barreto at rodney@thebarretogroup.com.
