As far as we’re concerned, when it comes to fly fishing, swinging flies for big, bright, sea-lice ridden king salmon is as good as it gets. At Alaska West, we’re extremely fortunate to be located on arguably one of the best rivers to target king salmon on the fly in the entire world – and in no way do we take that for granted!

You may have heard that during the past two seasons, sportfishing for king salmon was closed in our neck of the woods due to low escapement numbers. Well, today we have good news.. According to the good folks at the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G), it’s now official.. Sport Fishing for King Salmon in the Kanektok River (home to Alaska West) will be open for the 2016 season.

According to ADF&G, during the 2015 season, escapement numbers for king salmon were the highest in recent years, thus warranting the opening of the sportfishing season for 2016. But we have even better news.. We still have prime time king salmon spots still available at Alaska West!

In fact, we still have a few spots open during the first week of our season this year (June 19th-26th). That’s prime king salmon time in our neck of the woods, not to mention the hottest mouse fishing for leopard rainbow trout of the season as well! If that sounds like a good time to you, drop us a line for more information!

We couldn’t be happier that things are looking up for our beloved chinook, so in light of such good news, today we present you with a roundup of a whole bunch of popular posts on fly fishing for the baddest fish in fresh water.
