REC Components CERACOIL Guides explained

Posted on May 26 2020

We’ve always equated REC components to the BASF of the fly fishing world—“we don’t a make a lot of the products you buy; we make a lot of the products you buy better.”

From grips to guides, tubes and more, odds are REC fingerprints are all over your favorite tackle.  And REC has literally been the glue that has held the fly-fishing industry together in good times and bad.

Here the company describes a new guide technology that will revolutionize fly rods:

CERECOIL is the fishing industry’s newest and most high tech guide on the market offered by REC Components. This new guide offers the features and benefits of the existing patented RECOIL Nickel Titanium frame and now boasts the addition of a zirconia ceramic insert. This ceramic material, which was chosen specifically for its exceptional ability to withstand wear and breakage. This is also the only guide on the market that marries those two materials together, a truly unique offering.

This guide is corrosion proof in any environment, it infinitely flexes with the blank (reducing sharp spots on the blank and breakage), is extremely lightweight and sensitive and now offers a smooth, extremely wear resistant and stealthy operation. CERECOIL is also the first guide on the market that mechanically holds its ceramic ring in place. This prevents the insert from popping out during use, even in extreme situations. Most other inserts are held in place only by epoxy and can pop out.

Why would you want to use them as a consumer:

As a consumer you’d strive for the best performance and reliability from your rod. You make the investment in the right tool for your fishing style and ability and expect it to hold up when you need it the most. The rod I choose should be one less thing to worry about, and something I’m proud of.

The existing RECOIL line is synonymous with longevity, technical appeal and performance. Everyone likes to be a bit unique and have a leg up on the competition. CERECOIL, which is years in the making was designed to be a technical, reliable, and desirable guide. We understand almost all anglers have fished rods with guides with include a ceramic insert as their stripping guide. REC now has a premium solution for the rest of the market that prefers an inserted guide, and it’s as good as it gets.

Why you’d want to use them as a rod company:

Similar to the interest of consumers, rod makers are always looking for the edge. Getting an edge on the fish and your fishing buddy isn’t an easy feat. All the little things add up and make a big difference in the end.

CERECOIL comes from a lifetime of proven success and desirability stemming from the RECOIL line. The appeal of its features and benefits is undeniable and its performance on the market to date, while short lived, has been proven so far. Scott’s Sector Fly Rod took home the “Best in Show” award at this past year’s IFTD show and it features CERECOIL as the stripping guide. Soon thereafter Douglas’ Sky-G rod took home top honors in the 5wt shootout in 2019 and it too features CERECOIL as its stripping guide of choice.

To make things more appealing, today’s rod companies offer a lifetime warranty for their higher end, more desirable rods. This guide is built to look good, perform well, and last forever. It will never corrode in any environment. Its frame is flexible allowing the rod to be dropped, the guide to be stuck in a branch, some rough handling during travel from time to time without breakage.

The most unique attribute about CERECOIL is the ability to replace its ceramic ring in the rare event of a breakage. This ring replacement can be done by anyone with household equipment in under a minute and never required the guide to be cut off and rewrapped/epoxied.

Rod companies around the world currently enjoy the features and benefits of this particular guide because it’s the best guide they can offer to their customers. It helps make their rods better, more technical, visually unique and most of all overall, more desirable.
