While most bonefish angling is strictly catch and release, there is nonetheless a mortality rate due to recovery time in predator-rich environments. A group of concerned scientists have recently published their study the use of recovery bags post-release in the February issue of Journal of Experimental Marine Biology and Ecology. “Retaining bonefish in recovery bags improved swimming abilities during the critical time period where the majority of post-release predation occurs,” concludes the abstract.
