Need to turn over big flies fast in warm saltwater? At Andros South we do, and for that job we like the Rio Tropical Clouser.
Many of our bonefish flies are #2 or bigger. Getting the fly in front of the fish quickly, with minimal false casting, greatly increases our hookup rate. A fly line with a long front taper might be great for delicate presentations of tiny flies to spooky fish, but that kind of line is not so great at delivering big flies quickly.
Compared to most conventional bonefish lines, the Tropical Clouser has a fairly heavy head with a shorter front taper. That’s what you want in situations like this one that’s awfully common on South Andros – “Big bonefish! 40 feet! 11 o’clock! Get it out there now!”
Big bones don’t like small flies. If you need to deliver big goods to big fish quickly, you should check out the Tropical Clouser.
