Sea Lice Not to Blame for B.C. Salmon Collapse?

Posted on December 14 2010

Canada’s Globe and Mail reported yesterday that a team of Canadian and U.S. researchers has concluded, “using industry data previously not available to scientists,” that sea lice from fish farms are not responsible for the decline of wild Pacific salmon in British Columbia. The article drew a strong response from environmentalists, who point out that the researchers either currently work for aquaculture businesses or have in the past.
Biologist Alexandra Morton, who’s been studying sea life in the area for decades, called the report “outrageous and highly political.”
