A good choice for a day on the water.

Simms has come out with a whole bunch of really good new packs this year, and one of our favorites is the Headwaters Day Pack.  Like its big brother the Headwaters Backpack, it’s a really well-designed pack, purpose-built for fishing.

The feature list is long – rod holders, sunglass pocket, gear organizers, rain cover, hydration bladder fittings…the list goes on.

We say it’s really comfortable, with easy access to the gear that you use most in a day on the river.  We like the Day Pack because it’s the perfect size for your typical day of walk-around fishing, like, say, a day on the Upper Dean.  It’s not too big to fish in comfortably.

If you’re carrying a bunch of sensitive equipment like camera gear, a true dry pack like the Dry Creek Day Pack is a better choice.  But if you’re carrying mostly fishing gear and the only items that truly need to stay dry are your point-and-shoot camera and (please, no) your cell phone, the combination of easy access, organization and moderate water protection from the rain cover will work just great.
