Simms says that their Neoprene Wading Socks
are “ideal to wear with our wading sandals when fishing cold rivers on hot days”.
That may be the case, but they’re also our favorite socks to wear when we’re wading on the flats of South Andros.
At Andros South we wade a lot. Some of our flats are literally miles long, and in a week of fishing with us you’re likely to walk through white sand, coral, mud, rough limestone, dry mangroves, turtle grass and more. It seems a little ridiculous to bother reviewing socks, but really– socks matter.
We think the Simms Neoprene Wading Socks
are the best choice out there for wading on the flats, and yes, we prefer them to socks designed specifically for the flats. Here’s why.
- They’re not too bulky. Some ‘flats socks’ are really bulky in all the wrong places, and that screws up the fit of your flats boots. These socks are a nice uniform 1 mil thick and they feel great inside your boots.
- They’re comfy. That thin layer of neoprene provides just enough extra cushioning to keep your feet feeling good all day – even if that day means chasing Torrie through the mangroves.
- They don’t pick up as much debris. Getting chunks of coral, limestone or large-grain sand stuck in your socks can ruin a day of wading (blisters = bad). We don’t know why, but these socks seem to pick up a lot less junk.
Believe it or not, we think these socks make enough of a difference that they’re worth reviewing. Give them a try on your next trip to the flats and we think you’ll agree.
