Long time readers may remember that last year about this same time I went to Louisiana for a couple days looking for redfish under grey skies. We caught no redfish and a mishap in the boat turned my Steffen 8/9 weight into a six piece rod from the original three. Not a good day since this big stick was magic.
I was very fortunate that rod builder, blogger, and fly tier Vladan Milenkovic of the Fly Fisherman's Cafe agreed to take all the pieces, tear apart the wreckage, and salvage as much as possible for a rebuild. Mark Steffen rolled up a new blank and twelve months later the Steffen 8/9 weight has been resurrected...along with a second tip that somehow didn't snap in the mishap. Hallelujah.
The Steffen arrived just in time for a trip this week to Ohio and Michigan for steelhead and will see future duty on a few redfish and carp trips in the months to come.
