We’ve told you before that we think you should try out a switch rod if you haven’t already. We’ve also told you that we tend to think of switch rods as basically being little spey rods. They definitely can be fished like little spey rods and that’s maybe the use that’s most applicable in our fisheries, but reality is that they’re more versatile tools than that.
The ‘switch’ name comes from the fact that these rods can be cast overhead like normal single-handed rods, and they can be spey cast as well. In this short video, George Cook from Sage walks us through and demonstrates a few different situations where you can use your switch rod.
Here’s the outline – great applications for switch rods include
- Beach fishing
- Lake fishing
- Nymphing
- Single-handed spey casting, and
- Our favorite – double-handed spey casting.
