Tenkara, At Home in the High Country

While Tenkara was once considered a “fad” in the U.S., the ancient Japanese method of fishing is holding its own, proving it’s here to stay. In a recent article in The Denver Post, Scott Willoughby focuses on its popularity along Colorado’s Front Range and on high country small streams. “That’s really where you see tenkara shining,” says Tenkara USA founder Daniel Gelhardo. “You have this long rod and you are casting across a bunch of currents. But the line stays off the water entirely, so there’s no need for mending, and the drifts are perfect every time.”
