Tippets: Old and New Waters, Hatchery Challenge, Tipping Etiquette

Posted on May 26 2014

  • Home waters can sometimes fade into the background with the allure of new locales. However, rediscovering old haunts after many years can bring an excitement all its own, as Joe Cermele writes in a recent post on Field & Stream.
  • A federal court has approved the settlement agreement in a lawsuit that challenged operations at the Trinity River Fish Hatchery.  The agreement will allow the hatchery to continue operations, with reforms to help continue to restore wild populations of coho salmon.
  • There is an unstated etiquette to tipping a fly fishing guide, and in a recent article, Tori J. McCormick gives some advice and explains what you’re communicating with your dollars, Also, keeping in mind that “independent guides have high overhead costs and derive a large percentage of their incomes from tips,” McCormick wrties. “They also provide the boat, the gear (rod and reel), bait, tackle and a library’s worth of angling knowledge.” Via The Star Tribune.
