This is the shell I wish I’d had during my first foray into fly fishing. It was spring in Wisconsin, and as we left the Driftless Angler fly shop in Viroqua, it started to mist. That mist turned in to a rain, and then a sideways rain, all while the temperature dropped and ended up hovering around 40 degrees Fahrenheit with gusty wind. The rain and wind weren’t enough to deter my enthusiasm, but I quickly learned the value of high-quality gear.
Made of light-weight Gore-Tex material, the Black Diamond Liquid Point Shell is perfect for layering and totally rain and wind-proof. I was able to wear it over another long sleeve shirt with no issues.
This jacket has an athletic cut. The slim profile is flattering, yet there is ample shoulder room allowing for ease of mobility. Velcro straps cinch cuff to size, and low-set zipper hand pockets are a feature I’ve missed from other rain shells I’ve fished in. Although designed to accommodate a climbing helmet, the hood adjusts to non-helmet size with a single draw string at the back of the hood. All in all, the Black Diamond Liquid Shell is a great jacket that I anticipate using for years to come. $249; blackdiamondequipment.com.
