Video: The World’s Best Rod Holder for Rafts

Posted on April 11 2014

I’ve struggled for years with how to go about setting up a rod holder on my fishing raft. I’ve built an handful, tried a few manufactured types, and sat around with friends trying to build one that would be low-profile, tough as nails, and last a good long time. None of them ever seemed to work that well.

As of yesterday I will waste no more time on the matter as I have found what I would consider the best-designed and-built rod holder on the market, period. After spending a day floating the Clark Fork using one I found it to be almost perfect. It’s a product called Rod Dog that retails for $200 and comes from a small custom raft frame manufacturer in Montana named Montana Raft Frames. Here owner Leo Larson explains the devilishly simple design.
