TU joins F3T as sponsor for fourth year in a row
Posted on January 23 2015
From TU:
Trout Unlimited today announced that it will continue to sponsor the Fly Fishing Film Tour in 2015, continuing a relationship that has proven fruitful for both entities since the partnership began four years ago.
TU’s investment in the film tour gives the nonprofit conservation group an avenue to reach filmgoers around the country at more than forty tour stops with its collaborative stewardship message, and it gives TU chapters from coast to coast the opportunity to recruit local members and let filmgoers see first-hand how TU makes fishing better for all anglers.
In addition to sponsoring F3T this year, TU is also sponsoring one of the films in the tour—Co2LD Water. The film, produced by Conservation Hawks and featuring the likes of

Second major oil pipeline spill in four years fouls Montana’s Yellowstone River
Posted on January 23 2015
From American Rivers:
For the second time in four years, an oil pipeline has spilled tens of thousands of gallons of oil into the Yellowstone River in eastern Montana, contaminating water supplies for local residents and harming valuable fish and wildlife habitat on the longest free-flowing river in the lower 48 states.
The most recent spill occurred on January 17 about five miles upriver of Glendive, Montana. The pipeline owner, Bridger Pipeline Company, initially estimated that up to 50,000 gallons of oil made its way into the Yellowstone River.
Scott Bosse, American Rivers’ Northern Rockies Director based in Bozeman, made the following statement:
“As a longtime Montanan, I am saddened and angered that another pipeline has leaked tens of thousands of gallons of oil into the Yellowstone River, contaminating water supplies for local residents and harming fish and wildlife. This makes two major pipeline spills in the Yellowstone River in the past four years, which is totally unacceptable given that Congress passed

Smith Introduces XL Options for Lowdown and Outlier Sunglass Models
Posted on January 23 2015
From Smith Optics:
Bigger and bolder, Smith is launching XL size offerings this January for its popular Lowdown and Outlier sunglass models. Widely seen in the optical market, customers can now select styles based on design rather than be constrained by frame size.

After releasing the popular Lowdown Slim last year for smaller face fits, the five-piece Lowdown Family now has a large coverage frame with the new Lowdown XL. The oversized eye wire, with traditional square lens shape, has been carefully considered to balance its scale with pantoscopic angle to ensure a superior fit for a broad range of faces. The lifestyle-driven design is style appropriate for large face shapes and equally as wearable as an oversized frame for fashion-conscious customers. Comprised of

Jackson Kayak Launches Coosa HD Fishing Kayak
Posted on January 21 2015

From Jackson Kayak:
The Coosa HD (Heavy Duty) builds on the original Coosa’s reputation for stability, comfort and maneuverability with the addition of an updated hull design and features that truly redefine the baseline for kayak anglers.
Still primarily a river-going machine, the hull of the Coosa HD is slightly longer and wider than the original, making it faster and even more stable for a wider range of river anglers while tracking truer on flatwater lakes, ponds, and inshore conditions.
“The whole design team is justifiably proud of the original Coosa, but now I feel like I’m getting even more of the comforts and features I’ve been dreaming about since we introduced the Coosa to the marketplace in 2011,” said Jackson Kayak’s original kayak fishing team member Drew Gregory. “Good news is
OCEARCH to Tag Tiger Sharks Down Under, Costa Adds New Apparel to Support the Mission
Posted on January 21 2015
From Costa:
Growing to more than 16 feet (5m), tiger sharks are regarded as one of the most dangerous – if not misunderstood – of its species. Tiger sharks are considered apex predators, which live at the top of the ocean’s food chain and help keep the entire marine ecosystem in check. But because of overfishing for its fins, flesh and liver, tiger sharks have landed on the nearly threatened list.
OCEARCH, the non-profit research organization tracking great white sharks and other ocean apex predators, prepares to set sail on its first Australian expedition Jan. 27 through Feb. 17, 2015, to study, tag and release tiger sharks near and around the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. To support the expedition, Costa plans to increase its contributions to the cause, donating a portion of each sale from every piece of OCEARCH apparel sold on its website.
A long-term OCEARCH partner and supporter of its unprecedented open source research, Costa designed a full line of shirts, hats and other gear to benefit the organization. Three new t-shirts, Mary Lee, Katharine and Lydia, are named after the satellite tagged great white sharks currently pinging via the OCEARCH online Shark Tracker. Customers can support their favorite shark while donating to help protect them and others in their species. Costa also developed a new shirt to commemorate the Australia expedition.
“Right now, studies suggest
