No Pebble… So Close Now!
Today, the EPA published their findings on the impacts a mine such as Pebble would have on the region and their point was pretty clear.
“Extensive scientific study has given us ample reason to believe that the Pebble Mine would likely have significant and irreversible negative impacts on the Bristol Bay watershed and its abundant salmon fisheries.” –EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy
There are still several pieces to this review process, including public involvement, so we can’t relent but today was a big day, a giant step towards victory.

From TU:
Trout Unlimited today congratulated the Environmental Protection Agency for putting the Clean Water Act into action and potentially halting the infamous Pebble Mine in the headwaters of Alaska’s storied Bristol Bay watershed.
“It is difficult to overstate the significance of this announcement. If the EPA follows the science and follows through on this, it will rank as one of the most significant conservation achievements of the past 50 years,” said Trout Unlimited president and CEO, Chris Wood. “This is one of the few places left on earth where nature works as it should, and it’s a breadbasket for the world, supplying literally hundreds of thousands of people with wild salmon.”
By putting into action Section 404 (c) of the Clean Water Act, the EPA is starting a process that will determine if large-scale mining in the Bristol Bay watershed of southwest Alaska, specifically the Pebble deposit, can co-exist with the area’s renewable natural resources, most importantly the waters that

From Cablz:
Cablz, Inc., the sole originator and patent holder of the “stay off the neck” eyewear retention system, has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Chums, Inc., in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama.
The lawsuit is asking for a jury trial and compensation for the infringement of U.S. Patent 8,366,268, which protects Cablz’ unique eyewear retainer system — worn by anglers, hunters, skiers, boaters and outdoor enthusiasts — invented by Cablz founder and CEO Ron Williams.
The Chums products cited for infringement include the Orbiter, the Adjustable Orbiter and the Mono Orbiter, along with private-label versions C-Line and C-Mono sold by retailers.
“We take our intellectual property rights very seriously,” said Williams, “and we’re taking the steps necessary to protect our patents from any company or party that seeks to profit from them without authorization. Lots of thought, time and engineering went into
