Angler’s Covey, Royal Gorge Anglers Utilize 2014 Fly Fishing Film Tour to Raise $18K
Posted on February 17 2014
From Angler’s Covey:
Fly fishing is a sport that can be a solitary pursuit or enjoyed with a couple of friends out on the river. But there is also power in numbers, especially when a community of fishers comes together for a common cause. And that was the case at the Fly Fishing Film Tour last Friday night.
The primary purpose of the evening was to support Project Healing Waters. And the community of fly fishers came through for the cause. Nearly 450 folks packed the Stargazer Theatre. We raised close to $18,000.00 for the local chapter of Project Healing Waters. The Colorado Springs chapter is reported to be the most active of the 160

Sasquatch and Unicorns
Sometimes you are lucky but luck is a funny thing. Most associate it with good fortune. And then there are the few who realize it can work against you. Here, a good friend, Alex Collier, recounts his “luck” in pursuit of his first steelhead in the PNW.
“At this point you’re probably saying to yourself, “I wonder if this guy has ever considered that he’s doing something horribly wrong?” My answer to that question would be, “YES! I wonder that every flippin’ time I go out!” At the end of every fruitless outing I replay the day in my head: should I have fished that run differently…with a different fly…with a different sink tip…standing on one leg…singing a different song in my head…with my socks inside out? Every day I attempt to try something different, or implement a new technique I see experienced steelheaders employ, and every day I’m left chasing my own tail.”

Landmark Vision for Saltwater Recreational Fisheries Management Unveiled by Policy and Industry Experts

Blue ribbon commission recommends enhanced fisheries management while upholding
saltwater recreational fishing’s economic, social and conservation benefits
MIAMI – A landmark report produced by the Commission on Saltwater Recreational Fisheries Management presents a new paradigm for conserving marine fishing resources while producing the full range of saltwater recreational fishing’s economic, social and conservation benefits.
Introduced today at the 2014 Progressive Miami International Boat Show in Miami, Fla., A Vision for Managing America’s Saltwater Recreational Fisheries outlines the nation’s most important recreational fisheries management issues and is intended to help guide federal policy decisions, particularly as Congress debates the reauthorization of the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act, the law that governs the nation’s marine fisheries.
Co-chaired by Bass Pro Shops Founder and CEO Johnny Morris and Maverick Boats President Scott Deal, the commission, composed of respected biologists, economists, conservationists, fisheries managers and policy makers, developed specific management recommendations for keeping saltwater recreational fishing sustainable and healthy. The commission advanced an innovative and

Glover’s Reef, Belize
From our friend Brian Irwin, a story of conservation efforts moving forward to protect and allow for more sustained angling.
“Eighteen miles out, on the second largest barrier reef in the world, I found bones and tarpon, but the permit were elusive, with only a few showing their tails on the skinny water that coats the coral patches that comprise the reef’s skin. Twelve tooth-rattling miles beyond this reef brought us to Glover’s Reef, a remote atoll with a broad central flat that stretched literally to the horizon."
Read the story on his blog here. The rest of the piece will be in the 2014 Spring issue of Fly Rod and Reel Magazine.
